IT Support Tier 1 Technical Support Cover Letter

Hi. My name is Marc. For the last decade, I have been a substitute teacher at various districts. This is a great part time job because it allowed me to pick my son up from school and gave me time to run a household. I an applying as a Tier 1 Technical Support(Managed Service Provider) because I have a passion for computers and have these qualifications.

qualifications

As a substitute teacher is important work I have experience tutoring students in Python and using my computer networking with smart chalk boards. It has also given me a passion to help others and meet their needs. It has also made me orders of magnitude better at public speaking. I also use the phone quite a bit at work, but the public speaking has honed my communications skills well.

Most of my IT experience comes from my second job of running a household. Hey...it worked for Harriet on the sitcom Family Matters, hopefully this will work for me too. I run 34 services on a refurbished Dell Optiplex. I also host 37 other services on a computer with 32 GB RAM, 4TB of SSD storage and an AMD Ryzen™ 7 5825U. This means I run 71 free and open source websites out of a closet in my office. It would be impracticable to demonstrate every free and open source website I host, but here are some examples of tools I use to help run my household.

Firefly III Budging Software

  • Firefly automates my household budget.
  • It imports data
  • Generates reports

This is private information, but here is a screen shot form their website:

I run a Whoogle search engine. Try it yourself.

Mealie

Mealie is some of the most useful free and open source software I can think of to help manage a household. The grocery list automation shaved hours off my weekend chores.

  • It uses machine learning to scrape recipes off the web
  • Automates my grocery lists
  • Create cookbooks
  • Saves time!

Made My Home Smart With Home Assistant

home assistant

Home assistant allows me to turn off the lights from anywhere in the world, schedule my vacuum cleaning, and turns off my TV an hour after I go to bed and let’s my wife change the temperature from her phone.

Relevant Job Experience

I am mostly self-taught, but the skills I learned with the Google IT Certificate helped me on this journey. I also talk to many developers I consider friends on Discord, GitHub, and other stuff. They have helped me learn many of the things that I do and I am grateful to have met such smart people on the Internet. I have had the pleasure to meet many of them in real life now. I look forward to using these skills to create value at Lenity Technology, Inc. in their technical support department.

I didn’t mention this, but I have a smart phone or two and consider myself an advanced user. I also have a
driver’s license and clean driving record. Although I have not yet worked at a startup, I am a regular at a technology based meetup group that meets about once a week. Three of the people I have met their work at a couple start ups. These new companies appeal to me because I feel I can be creative and share ideas. My friends don’t always agree, but they tend to be open to new ideas whereas I have noticed more established companies tend to dislike out of the box thinking.

Although I use Linux these days, I have several years of experience using Windows PC’s and A district I worked at for 5 years only used Macs. I also know BASH, which gives me command line super mutant ninja turtle powers on the Mac terminal. I also have a little experience using

I also have an understanding of TCP/IP, IP addressing, and subnets. I have been interested in Internet protocols for about a decade now. A couple years ago I was able to participate in creating a new Internet protocol on GitHub. It is still early, but it’s a new way of transmuting data using two points of the elliptic curve secp256k1. It is cryptography, but there is no “blockchain.” I guess you can call that an example of being good at analytical thinking and addressing complex issues by breaking them into manageable components and logical steps. It’s math I find fascinating and am able to explain this math on another blog I write.

I know Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, but I use Nextcloud which is relevant because it has given me experience setting up VoIP. The

I have a little experience using setting up free and open source ticketing software, but to be honest, nobody has used it yet. I at least know how it works and how I would respond to tickets if I ever got one.

I also have an above average knowledge of troubleshooting printers. Home assistant tracks all my ink and I am also aware that these machines can be very frustrating so I can empathize with a customer that might be pulling her hair out because of printer issues.

I look forward to learning more about this position and love that this company believes in training and coaching to help it’s employees. Thank you for the opportunity.

Sincerely,

Marc Leon
