LNBits
Using LNBits For A TipJar, Ticketing System, PayWall & Point-Of-Sale Terminal
I have run my own, self-hosted bitcoin lightning networks in the past, but have learned this is practically a full time job. Therefore, I decided the opportunity cost of running my own lightning node is not worth the trade off given the ammount of satoshis I can realistically earn so I host it on [TODO: Write about voluteer alpha-testing work with Albu Hub] Alby Hub.I have self-hosted many lightning nodes, including Alby Hub on Ubuntu, but my home internet invariably goes down from time to time so i prefer using the cloud service to keep the servicwe available. I also like the work they are doing and enjoy supporting them.
From a cybersecurity perspective, this is a hot wallet. I hold the keys, but it is more risky because there are trusted third parties I cannot audit. I accept this trade off because losing $100 in a hot wallet would not be catastropic. I also think it's not really worth "hacking" my $100 when someone with these skills could probably make more money finding legal bug bounties on hackerone than stealing my hundred bucks.
My LNBits instance does not have a full bitcoin node. It works via Nostr Wallet Connect instead. In other words, my LNBits is just a front end accounting system. It is conected to my node in the cloud using NWC like an API.
