Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the IT Technician position at REAL Journey Academies. With over ten years of education experience, I believe I am uniquely qualified for this position. I completed an English credential from National University in 2018, but discovered I have a disposition that is more conducive to working on computers than teaching. I still believe teaching is a valuable and important skill, but it’s not one that comes easy to me. As a substitute teacher I have had the privilege of tutoring students in Python and using my computer skills to troubleshoot smart boards. It has also given me a passion to help others, meet their needs, and improved my public communications skills.

Most of my hands-on experience, however, comes from my second mob of running a household. It worked for Harriet on the sitcom Family Matters, hopefully this works for me too. I run 34 services on a refurbished Dell Optiplex. I also host 37 other services on a computer with 32 GB RAM, 4TB of SSD storage and an AMD Ryzen™ 7 5825U. This means I run 71 free and open source websites out of a closet in my office. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your mission of increasing college entrance and graduation rates for under-served students.

In my current role as a Linux Systems Administrator for my household, I have honed my skills in maintaining, analyzing, and troubleshooting a variety of computer systems and networks. This experience has required me to configure hardware, install and update software. I also verify software using PGP. This experience directly aligns with the essential duties of the IT Technician role at RJA, where I would be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting computer systems and peripherals.

Moreover, my extensive experience as a Guest Teacher at Perris Union High School District has equipped me with the ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with students, staff, and colleagues. During my tenure, I have tackled various technology issues, taught basic Python programming, and provided essential IT support. This background will enable me to serve as a reliable and approachable technical point of contact for all end users at RJA, ensuring their technical needs are met promptly and efficiently.

My role as an Assistant Manager at Walgreens further developed my ability to coordinate tasks, manage teams, and ensure operational efficiency. These skills, coupled with my technical expertise, make me well-suited to supervise IT interns and assist in the preparation of various reports as required by the IT Technician role.

I am proficient in a range of programming languages and technologies, including Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bash, PowerShell, and Markdown. My Google IT Certificate has supplemented my practical experience with formal training, enhancing my ability to troubleshoot hardware, configure networks, and manage software installations effectively. Additionally, my interest in cybersecurity and applied cryptography ensures that I stay updated on the latest security practices, which is crucial for maintaining a secure and reliable IT environment at RJA.

I am confident that my technical skills, combined with my strong interpersonal abilities and dedication to education, make me an ideal candidate for the IT Technician position at REAL Journey Academies.
