Specer DIY is a wallet you make yourself. I mean, I didn't do the 3d printing myself, but it's simple to put together and create your own air-gapped hard wallet. This is a Do It Yourself Wallet. You buy the board put it together and plug in a couple wires. That's pretty much how it works. I'ts just a matter of finding the parts.
Specter DIY Is Free And Open Source Software
You can put it together buy yourself but I had help. Okay so here's the deal. I am a hardware wallet affecianado. I...Well...I have a problem. I love testing hardware wallets. To me, it's a better pasttime than baseball. I think I have about a dozen wallets. This is definitely not financial advice. Nobody needs this many hardware wallets, but I lobe experimintign with them. Most of my wallets don't have any bitcoin on them aby the way. I use a lot of testnet coins. If you need some testnet 4 sats, hit me up.

What Risks Does This Wallet Mitigagte
This wallet is made from off the shelf parts, not a known hardware wallet manufacturer. You might say, Wait I thought the comercials told me those hardware wallets were the best of all besties? I agree, but we can't just trust our favorite influencers. Even if they are trustworthy, we still can't trust them. For example, I love listening to NVK talk about cybersecuroty. He's the best cybersecurity engineer in the business if you ask me. I almost want to be a Cold Card Maxi, but unfortunately this would mean I need to violate the first rule of Bitcoin: don't trust, verify.
Even if I did trust NVK, which ... to be honest...I kinda to, what if he is compromised? What if a spook works among him? We live in a world of exploding pagers where bitcoin is now geopolitcally relevant. We can't be too careful in a world where illegal math has bi-partisan support.
Pulling parts off the shelf mitigagtes this risk. By the way, this is something I have thought about myself, but Seed Signer also mentioned this on the What Bitcon Did podcast. I had the pleasure of meeting Seed Signer at the Bitcoin Conference in 2025. I also like the Seed Signer Wallet for other reasons. On The podcast, he mentioined the Seed Signer idea spun off of the Specter DIY wallet and Michael Flaxman's idea of creating a wallet with a Raspberry Pi that does not have Wi-Fi. There are some risk to the Seed Signer like the Evil Maid Attack and some data extraction exploits using long range radio waves but tools like this are excellent addition to a multi-sig wallet setup.
I got my Specter DIY from Moritz Wietersheim, the founder of Specter Solutions but he has since stepped away from his role. I met him at Pacific Bitcoin in 2022. I saw him speak about the project and told him I was a fan of Specter Desktop, a wallet that came out before Sparrow Wallet. I fan boyed him afer his talk and told him I loved that wallet. I told him How I grocked Michael Flaxman's 10X your BTC Security guide during the lockdows. So he took me to a booth. he showed me how to oput the thing together. I literally needed to put together two wires. Then someone tryed to shill some shitcon I nor anywone else can remember. He acted like you would expect a toxic maxi to act. Then he gave me the wallet.
What Are The Risks of Specter DIY
Well, maybe he "hacked the wallet."
- Maybe the keys are pre-made()retireement attack. I don't think this is the case since I verified the software myself
-Maybe the board is comoromised - Maybe the entropy is not good enough
That's okay, I don't use this wallet for my life savings. I use it as a backup. I hav a wallet using multisig that uses Miniscript To spend requires the TapSigner and the Cold Card Q. After 30 days, I only need the Specter DIY I keep geographically distributed. Specter DIY is one of the only wallets that supports this feature. The Cold CArd products also support MiniScript if you install the Edge Firmware.

I used to have a tap signer in my wallet and if I lose it...Well...That would suck, to be clear, I could recover it, but the TapSigner recovery process is a pain in the mempool. If I send my sats to an address in the same wallet, I the clock resets. If I lose one of the wallets, say the TapSigner in my traditional wallet, I will not be able to spend until the time expires. Losing the Tap Signer in my wallet was a bigger threat than some Bitcoin OG creating this super-complex scheme to steal less than a million sats. Even if he did have this diabolical plan, he would need my output descriptor. Honestly, if he is that good, he could get bigger targets.
To be clear. I assign an extremely low probability to this possobility, but you know the motto: Don't Trust, Verify. For the record, I think Moritz Wietersheim is an honest man.

Besides, I don't use it by itself anyway.
